Pretty amazing really that this isn’t shouted from every mountain. Amazing that it’s ignored so much by society…
And really… anyone with eyes can see that the hospitals and doctors offices are full of overweight people.
I think we often want to debate all smaller issues (which may be valid) and ignore the one BIG issue because we don’t want to f…[Read more]

I am a beginner myself. I lost a couple years ago and disappeared and recently joined back. I think the tip I have used is drinking water when I feel like I just can’t continue without food. I also have to space my meals so my dinner is about 3 hours before I go to bed. Any earlier and I am too hungry.

Jello is tough. It become a liquid immediately, so it’s like drinking a soda–or a diet soda–or something in between. Frankly, I don’t like it. Instead, get your sweet fix, however you do it, in your five bites twice a day. Let me ask you this: Can you remember 10 individual bites of sweetness from just yesterday? How about from the day b…[Read more]

Thank you for your response! Yes I have definitely stretched out my stomach but have found ways to eat around it! I think the 5 bites is exactly what I need right now. It takes exactly 5 bites for me to feel full without liquids. Question, if I want sugar free jello at night for something sweet, would that count as a bite?

Welcome Rosemarie!!
Not a thing. Nothing changes. But it’s great that you’ve had the experience of eating so little. Now you can keep it going much longer–in fact, all the way to the finish line. Instead of relying on sutures to control your appetite, you will learn an even stronger mechanism: your hungerstat. When you’ve set it to a give…[Read more]

I had gastric bypass surgery 20 years ago. I just found the 5 bite diet. Dr. Lewis, because I’m a gastric bypass patient, would anything be different for me regarding the diet? Am looking to lose 80 pounds by end of June (not sure if possible). Currently 260, 5’6″. Thanks for your help!

Oh my goodness. All of the metabolic diseases that we know of that are associated with overweight and obesity–diabetes, hypertension, atherosclerosis, dementia, asthma, GERD, arthritis, liver disease, kidney failure, heart attacks, strokes, and ALL CANCERS, to name a few, creep into the middle and upper levels of the “normal” BMI range.…[Read more]

I had never heard of Dr. Gelber’s prospective BMI study until Dr. Lewis referenced it. I’ve been told all my life that all health risks are minimal in the “healthy” BMI range. What sorts of risks are associated with the upper tail of the healthy BMI range?

This was said to me by a 78 year old today and it startled me into committing to this 5BD wholly. I don’t want to spend another year “trying” to lose weight, for what? To be in the exact same place a year from now? Ten years from now? Life is so, so short not to be living at the very best you can be.

That is me too. When I get stressed and tired and bored I think food will fix it. Usually, the food makes me feel worse. What we are doing is countercultural. We are going against what is all around us telling us to eat and drink. But 5 perfect days is very good!

Just to stay accountable… leaving my progress and thoughts after my first week. I did pretty well. 5 Perfect Days. 2 bad days. The culprit… as it always is. Alcohol. I had a couple really bad days personally… so I thought to myself, I’ll just have one stiff drink and chill out. But as always… Alcohol makes my self control quickly say “bye bye.…[Read more]
