Believe it or not, I only have a handful of people who have stuck to, and only to, Snickers for a week. All of them (from the best of my memory) lost 13-16 pounds that week. They were of different sexes, though if they weighed more they lost more. Remember: the more you weigh, the more energy your body requires to run, and the more calories…[Read more]

I was wondering Dr. Lewis about the 15lbs in a week eating 2 snickers bars per day. You said on average you have seen this happen. Do you feel it is more likely to happen to a larger person (who maybe has 150-200lbs to lose) or does it not seem to really matter if you are only 50-75lbs overweight?

Thanks Dr Lewis. I feel better knowing that my weight loss is "acceptable" and average. If I feel the need to kick up the speed, I may try 5 bites of vegetables for a week. How’s that sound?

Thanks so much for your response. I made my comment over a week ago (I think) and no one said anything except Dr. Lewis. He just says take smaller bites. You sound intelligent and very similar to my experience so far. I think I could do this "diet" for the rest of my life but I probably will add 5 bites of breakfast and kick it up to more…[Read more]

Hi. Nice to hear from you again.
Everything above sounds fine, except the part about 1 pound = 3500 calories. Those calculations are just not correct. I know this because I just had a near-500 pound man lose 28 pounds his first week on this diet. You are suggesting that his daily deficit was 14,000 Calories, and for someone who…[Read more]

Remember, one pound = 3500 calories. The average person burns between 1800-2500 calories per day, less your intake and exercise calories burned. Do the math, don’t get discouraged. I did, fell off, then did the math and got back on with a new perspective on what I was taking in vs. what was going out. The quantity of food matters with the…[Read more]

klclumer, I think you’re doing awesome! Five pounds per week is great!
I’ve gone over and over the math on the numbers on this since I’m no where near the 10-15 pound per week mark and I’m following this to a T. I was becoming very discouraged until I sat down and did the math myself.
The way the body works is all about the caloric intake vs.…[Read more]

I’m not too thrilled with last week’s weight loss either. As of last Tuesday I went with the Snickers Bars and followed the diet to the letter. Last week I lost 5 pounds total. It’s getting harder to keep this up because I need the to lose more weight. I am still doing it because I’ve lost a total of 32.5 pounds in one month, which is good, but it…[Read more]

Obviously we can’t make assumptions based on individual cases–that is why we perform large, ‘powered’, double-blinded, random controlled studies to eliminate ‘chance’ occurrences of the type you mentioned.
Such double-blinded, large, random controlled studies have shown that a BMI of 18.5, for both men and women, is healthier than any…[Read more]

I’ve been doing this diet for 7 weeks. I have not lost weight as quickly as Dr. Lewis says I should, but I am happy and continue to loose. I read his book and agreed with most everything I read. I think the reason this isn’t as unhealthy as you think, is that the time it takes to loose the weight is so much shorter than Weight Watchers or…[Read more]

Thank you so much. I just got tired of the stupid feelings, telling me it’s ok to start tomorrow, to go ahead and have more to eat, etc. I just got SO fed-up and frusterated, I was ready to do battle. I looked at myself in the bathroom mirror, and looked at myself like I was ready to do battle. I looked deadly serious at myself, and told myself…[Read more]

Hey Rae! I really loved your last post here. That really gave me a lot of encouragement. You really sounded like a very strong women. I have always felt like a strong woman and I have always been one of the best at everything I have done in my life except when it came to my weight. I have always, well not always, but since my late twenty’s I…[Read more]

Thank you so much Georgia! I’m in a hurry to lose weight so my husband can see how awesome I can look before he leaves me for his deployment. That, along with wanting to lose the weight in a hurry before I see my in-laws.
I’m only 5’3", but determined to lose this weight. I do not care what it takes. I WILL be thinner. I am stronger than my…[Read more]

Thank you hon! I just figure that I’ve been this size already, and I can’t wait to get thinner. It’s time to stop putting it off, and bite the bullet, and get to it. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

I started when I was 145-ish, and this morning, the scale said 125, so that’s 20lbs I"ve lost in about 2 1/2 wks. Just 25lbs more to go, and I’m THERE!!
We were driving home last night, talking about the 5BD, and I told my husband that I realized something. I’ve been on this for about 2 1/2 wks or so, and everyday I’ve been eating less than…[Read more]
