Rae….I can understand what you are going through. I can concur with Dr Lewis in that you will not regain the weight. I started the 5bd the first wk of May and by the end of May early june I had lost 30 pds. As of today I have not regained any of that weight. In fact I am going to lose an additional 10 pds which I can do in a week. It is only…[Read more]

Dr. Lewis– thank you very much for any and all advice. In your book, I’m reminded of the line you wrote that said, "What do you say to a know-it-all dieter…" because my mom IS the know-it-all dieter. Not only that, but her and my step-dad are going to be staying with us in our home, and to her, ‘normal’ dinner is a 12" huge plate with a…[Read more]

Rae-
You will definitely never regain the weight. The FBD gives you the ability to drop weight easily, should you ever need to again, and you will develop this extraordinary sense of control that makes maintaining your weight very, very easy. Then you feel uniquely powerful!
In regards to what to say to your mother, simply tell her that, for…[Read more]

Dr. Lewis, PLEASE tell me that I won’t re-gain the weight when I hit my goal.
Also, what do I do when my mom comes to visit next Christmas?? What I mean is, I don’t want her thinking that I’m sick or I don’t eat enough etc. so how can I calm her fears and worries as a parent when she’s surely going to see how much (or rather how little) I eat???

Absolutely right! You would MUCH RATHER be in the place you are now than at the same weight even 1 month from now. Just imagine being thin, thin for your Thanksgiving Day family gathering, and being skinny for Christmas, where you can over-eat, flaunt it, and not feel the least bit guilty! So just endure the next couple of weeks and your life…[Read more]

Bethany – Have whatever is convenient for you. Divide whatever Snickers Bar you settle on into five bites, and let each one of those bites become the standard for what a ‘normal’ bite size is for you. Then, whenever you eat and irrespective of what you eat, eat just five bites.
Whether you are eating the 58 gm snickers or the 20 gm snickers, it…[Read more]

Hey Miss B,
I am so glad that I am not the only one struggling to return to only 5 bites. I was doing so well then I went on vacation and slipped and have not been able to get back on the wagon. I agree with you that it is only a mind thing because when I eat only 5 bites I do not feel hungry I just see the food and want it. I think I am going to…[Read more]

Thanks Arleen and Dr. Lewis!
Well those could be some of the the things I could say. I was thinking about it last night while laying in bed and another thing I could say is "I’ve eaten a big lunch" and then I just bring my 5 bite regular meal (therefore not differing my plan at all)..I dont know but I REALLY dont want to screw up. I just want to…[Read more] -

Kizzykay –
Don’t be afraid of the future. There will ALWAYS be ‘big’ events just around the corner, and you need to learn to conquer each and every one of them. OK, you may lose the battle on a few, but a ‘few’ won’t make a difference in the long run. And once you reach your target goal you’ll find that you can indulge more often than you…[Read more]

Hello Kizzy –
Your situation sounds all too familiar. There must have been at least three parties that I attended when I started this diet. What I have done when there has been an event. Of course it depends on the time of day and the length of the party, but I have both 5 bite meals at the event with an interval of about 3 hours. In other words…[Read more]

I completely agree with you Rae, the visual triggers are the worst for me too. I have been staying away from restaurants because I know how much of an issue it is for me.
I also agree with your idea of ordering coffee or using the excuse that you have already eaten.

That’s why I try to avoid those types of get-togethers, or, if I have no choice, I’ll order a cup of coffee and explain I
already ate (or I don’t feel well, etc.). I find the visual triggers the WORST. That’s the main reason I try to avoid them. -

In my opinion, I think the body is always in a constant state of breaking down and re-building and I would imagine the same is true for our muscles.
(and speaking of how long animals go without eating– whales go an average of 6mos. without food living off of their blubber– and they have the longest migration route).

I do not think that your thyroid is the problem, but you should see your doctor and have it checked just to be sure. Your body, simply stated, cannot survive on 0 calories. You can’t create energy from nothing! Every unit of heat that radiates from your body is coming from the break-down of sugar. Every time you breathe you are blowing out…[Read more]
