Actually, Beth and I had one on Monday. Yes! I hold them every week, but I’m usually the only one there.
(except for Beth. Thanks Beth!!) -

Great, and you are right: you HAVE been through much worse. This diet is hard and frustrating at times, but you’ve been through much worse. AND there is an end in sight. AND, when you are in the groove (it takes just a few perfect days in a row to set your hungerstat), the diet because much easier–fun even! Because you are filling up on foo…[Read more]

I love that. And if you think that hunger is bad, or avoiding the temptation to eat extra food is too hard, think about the struggle of battling cancer. Maybe that will help you to throw out the rest of the food.

Be careful: too much diet soda WILL slow down your weight loss. A can or two a day is fine, but I wouldn’t go beyond that.

Hi BK. Back to basics: You are serious about wanting to lose weight, right? That’s why you are here, right? You want to lose weight because you want to be thin (and all of the health benefits that go along with being thin), not because you don’t like the fat, right?
Then you’ve got to start enjoying–truly enjoying the process. Enjoy and…[Read more]

Indeed! Stress and anxiety are triggers for most people to eat, and eating makes you feel good–for a moment. But then you feel even worse for hours to come! I think the best stress reliever is to imagine yourself skinny, maximally healthy, and free of the stress you are feeling today. Getting skinny WILL get you there, but until you are the…[Read more]

Great. Live off of cheap, pre-packaged food. Eat quickly, and throw everything away. If you want to spend TIME eating, for it’s enjoyment, slowly sip on hot coffee or tea. But this is a great opportunity to stick to the diet perfectly. Again, imagine how incredible the finish line will feel. What are you waiting for?

Also, Beth, taking baths (long baths–really, really long baths) are great. Walking (slowly, sort of a lazy meander) is great too, if you do it for a LONG time. Books, long movies are all great. Anything to occupy time and take your mind off your stomach and off of food.

Yes! Fantasize about how extraordinary you are going to look when you are skinny! But in the shorter term, think about how good it feels to stop at bite number 5–when you do so successfully. It really does feel good. You feel empowered, optimistic, energetic. The hunger goes away quickly.

Exactly right. But there’s nothing that feels as good as when you succeed in achieving your own personal goals. So set those benchmarks and hold yourself accountable. But also enjoy the process. You are able to do something that very few other people are willing to do themselves. And it feels SO GOOD to be able to d that. Take a few bites…[Read more]

It fun when you are on track. It’s exciting. You are filled with hope and optimism. You can only imagine how much better your life is gong to be when you are finished losing weight. And all of these feelings are far better than the enjoyment you get from eating. So don’t take that 6th bite–ever! Avoid snacking. Welcome the hunger. Do wh…[Read more]

Hi Jaz. Again, the BEST way to suppress your appetite is to eat a constant, set VOLUME of food and never change that volume–EVER–until you are done. But, if you need an additional aid to help control hunger, then you are going to have to take some kind of stimulant. The most conventional is caffeine. But all stimulants can worsen your anx…[Read more]

GREAT, GREAT, GREAT!!! The first time is a huge monumental feat! Now that the food is gone, PLEASE don’t justify snacking or extra bites at your next meal–rather, cement the great gains you’ve made by continuing to throw everything else away. It really is doable, and the more you do it, the easier it gets. Then, before you know it, your hun…[Read more]
