No. I do not count bites. I’ve just learned what’s right for me. I’m a fairly young, active, guy, and for me my typical day goes like this:
Starbucks grande latte in the morning (nothing else, but plenty of calories there)
Double Cheeseburger at McDonalds, no fries, small reg coke
Split a typical restaurant dinner with my wife…[Read more]

Thanks for the questions.
First, every single time you stick to five bites for a meal, it counts. All those meals that you eat perfectly add up and amount to a lot of weight loss. ‘Falling off the wagon’ just delays the time when you are going to be finished with this diet, but it doesn’t take away from the fact that your body is…[Read more]

Great, Barbara. Remember: you are running a race. Once you start, there’s no point in turning back. In fact, keep the pace going quickly so you get done sooner. And once you cross that finish line, you are done for the rest of your life. I’m here to help you cross it. Let’s do it this time!!!

Hello Shanni –
I wrote a long response to this yesterday, but it evidently didn’t post. So it goes again:
The concept that eating very few calories causes your body to hold onto fat is absurd. The only people who would propagate such a misconception is someone (or group) who has financial interests in keeping you overweight. (For example,…[Read more]

drlewis replied to the topic New Maintenance Question? in the forum The Slimming Station Diet 17 years, 10 months ago
Yep. If that works for you, that’s perfect. The regimen of five bites 2x/day, though, works the best for most people to get to their dream weight (it WILL get EVERYONE to their dream weight). Once there, I leave it up to you to find a regimen that feels comfortable for you and that is easy to control. Sounds like you have it–GREAT!

You didn’t ‘mess up’, but what you are eating is more than five bites. I don’t like that. Just get the job done. If you stack your slice of deli beef, deli turkey, and swiss cheese, and have 5 small bites, more than half of it will be left over. All bites will taste exactly the same, and the larger number of bites that you are eating will mean…[Read more]

Good. Hopefully day one was successful. Now just put together another perfect day (back-to-back). Then do it again. Take each day at a time–don’t think about the ‘impossible’ challenge of staying focused for 4 months, but rather take each day as a new day, and just focus on being perfect that day. Four months from now you will wake up and be…[Read more]

ABSOLUTELY! She may actually find that, after losing weight, she needs less thyroid medication to keep her thyroid normal.

Once again…are you someone who really wants to lose weight? Do you want to look spectacular (like only movie stars and models)? Do you want to feel like a kid again? If your answer to these questions is yes, then how in the world can you give into other people’s persuasions? Where you are going is so far above them and their…[Read more]

It’s absolutely possible. At your height, you could be down to 140 in a 3 months. Just stay focused. You’re going to do great. I love the idea about reading the book frequently!

A 180-pound body can’t support itself on 500 calories a day (not even close), and that’s assuming ALL of your bites are CALORIE-LADEN. Five bites of a typical diet might add up to 200 calories or less. Your heart requires 15x this everyday, and I don’t suppose your heart has stopped beating since you started this diet. Also, the…[Read more]

Your metabolism doesn’t end up much faster, but a little bit. The reality is that we can’t change our metabolisms much one way or another–but at the very least our metabolisms DON’T slow down!

drlewis replied to the topic Slow metabolism in the forum The Slimming Station Diet 17 years, 10 months ago
Somehow, some way, you are getting too many calories into your body. Either you are unaware of little tidbits here and there that sneak their way in (your eating more than 5 bites 2/day) or your bites are WAY too big. But I’m not there to watch you eat. So you have to figure this out on your own. But do so, and your life will be incredible!

drlewis replied to the topic starting again in the forum The Slimming Station Diet 17 years, 10 months ago
ABSOLUTELY! But don’t expect that you will lose much weight just because you are exercising. Rather, use the ‘hard work’ spent in a gym as a constant, daily, reminder to only allow 5 bites of food to enter your mouth. Remember: you actually don’t need to eat at all if you have fat on your body, and you can exercise all you want on your fat…[Read more]

drlewis replied to the topic Explain this one to me? in the forum The Slimming Station Diet 17 years, 10 months ago
Two potential reasons:
1) As you get thinner, your body produces more aponectin–a hormone that suppresses your hunger. So, you may not in fact be eating as much as your think.
2) Once you reach your weight loss goal and stabilize there, your metabolism actually pick up FASTER than when you started. So, you will be able to eat more without…[Read more]
