I have discovered that eating 5 bites at lunch and dinner has really helped regulate my hunger. Having better hunger regulation then helps me stay to the 5 bites. Gayle, yes, I totally agree with what you said about going over the 5 bites, which just sets me up for wanting more and feeling conflicted. Waking up feeling thinner is way more satisfying!

Dinner done! Decided to do a veggie burger instead of my bar since my tummy was hurting me. I made sure the veggie burger was 2 ounces. Same weight as a bar I savored it from start to finish. Food taste so much better when we don’t drown ourselves in it.

Thanks Chloe. We just get very uncomfortable with any sort of discomfort I guess and the mind wants to do its very best to get us to be “happy” even at the expense of our health. Very annoying. I do wish two eggs was 5 bites and not just 1. I love boiled eggs :D

I’ve had many difficult day 2s. I have a rough sketch of a couple of things I think are happening. I think switching abruptly from the constantly fed state to a semi fasted state is just jarring to the body. As far as sugar is concerned, I prefer the real thing! it’s nice to be able to make a switch like that without feeling bad about it. Good work and stay strong for the next meal!

Good afternoon all!
Decided to eat granola bars rather than my protein bars because the artificial sugar was killing my belly. I made sure that they were under 2 oz. Thanks doc, you’re right and that is the main thing I have an issue with regarding fasting, the complete shutdown of one’s system. And then abstaining from food entirely doesn’t allow me to practice a different relationship with it. I get the idea of motivation waning as time goes on. BUTTTT – one thing I’ve learned is that it’s much easier to RIDE THE MOMENTUM than to INTERRUPT the process. Right, Chloe. There literally isn’t a better, faster weight-loss program out there. So if your progress is slow at times, remind yourself that there is no diet that would be more effective, except going on a complete fast. But even a complete fast has it’s issues that I don’t like. Dr. Lewis, Thanks for this word. I have generally avoided granola bars and such things. I guess there is nothing magic about Snicker Bars. When I finish my last six Snicker Bars, I will get some other “treat” to get the last 12 pounds off! Sean

Whatever you want: Payday bars, Kind bars, Granola bars. They are all a good 5-bite meal option. But ensure that the bar is about 2 oz (no king-sized bars!)
