Wow Dr. Lewis! I never realized that or thought about the fat being everywhere. I get headaches occasionally and especially sinus headaches. I want the fat gone but I haven’t committed. Time to get it done! I am 5′ tall and 195 at this point. How much weight if I was perfect for a week (bars let’s say) could I lose? Thanks!

I really like this quote from Dr. Lewis about establishing new routines: To also know you can have anything you want to eat in just five bites and feel so in control is so incredible. Read the book every day and focus on your day one day at a time. Drink lots of [decaf tea] and water and keep reminding yourself that you are creating a new pattern…[Read more]

It sounds like you are perfectly in the groove. Cement that groove: every perfect day gets easier than the previous one, and before long you are five-biting your meals without much thought. Keep up the great momentum!

Here, the Aussie Xmas is very boozy. You see people on boxing day 26th with black eyes from family punch ups. With the heat 40 degrees Celsius , we tend to go for seafood, but with the British background you have people making fruit cake, trifle (lots of sherry) and cooking pork roasts. Now they are advertising ham with cracking? As a pig farmer I…[Read more]

Accountability post – sorry been super busy. I am so proud. Here is my scale picture for today – 197.6. Down a pound from yesterday. Slow and steady. A perfect day so far today. Just coffee and water. 5 bites at lunch and the 5 bites of my bar at 530 and then getting in the call for accountability tonight!

That’s an MD’s confirmation to what I’ve thought too! Really important thought process… Thank you Dr Lewis.

Shelly–I know how you feel. I was in an accident years ago and even with crutches I struggled to get around. When the physical therapist had me walk, I dreaded it–not because of pain, but out of shear exhaustion. But I knew the only way to improve was to put in the hard work. You’ve just got to do it. It’ hard, but the future is brig…[Read more]

Hi Inhalekale! Welcome! Please fill out the weight tracker info–I’d love to learn more about you!
Yes–fat tends to increase our appetite. The less of it we have on the body, the less baseline appetite we have. I’ve experienced this myself (I still do), and almost all of my successful patients have said the same thing. (I would get s…[Read more]

Hi Dr Lewis: thanks for responding. The way you described the thought was so helpful – yes I am going to be irritable and hungry but that’s the short term pain (very short term) for the long term gain of being skinny and healthy.
I am going to stick with 2 meals as that will be most helpful. Your rationale why never to have leftovers really hit m…[Read more]

Hi Laura!
This issues you’ve described are really common. The emotional tie to food is hard to break, but I think it is best broken when you replace the irritability and fatigue you feel with a better association: that of looking and feeling amazing. YES!–you ARE going to be tired and hungry and irritable–but that’s the price you have to p…[Read more]

Hi I’m back.
Just dealing with some family dramas. I think my mother is getting Dementia. but while they are away on holiday I thought I’d give it another go.
My hunger stat has definitely been set lower and I have a changed attitude to food. But I really want to get loosing that 15 kg down to 70kg. So I’m in the right headspace now.
Back on…[Read more]

Hi all: so I have had one good day and then one not good day this whole last week. I have managed to go down about 3lbs (201 to 198). The nighttime is where I struggle. I do great through lunch and eat my bar or 5 bites but come night time if I am not hungry or don’t have the desire to eat I have waited and then gotten too hungry and ov…[Read more]

Hello,
I’ve seen this idea stated by Dr. Lewis. I don’t doubt it, but I was curious if he could point to specific evidence of it? Or is it based on experience/observation?At least within the short-term, there’s evidence that losing weight temporarily increases hunger and drive to eat.

For me, sustaining “motivation” or practicing “willpower” costs energy and results in unnecessary daily struggle. My mind and body wish to take the path of least resistance! If we do the tough work of adapting to the five bite plan, that difficult first three to five days, the way of eating becomes habit, which takes far less energy. I recall…[Read more]

Thanks Dr Lewis. I had my 5 bites at lunch – chicken salad with delicious tasty crackers. Threw the rest away. No idea what’s for dinner but it will be out with friends and 5 bites and I am done. This is so freeing!
