Hi BK— i’m glad you had a successful day one. I keep telling myself “systems over goals“! Eating five bites, eating five bites, go to bed. Inward to Day 2!

BK how did your day one go? Did you do snickers or food? Do you have to cook for your family? So glad you told me that you are also on day one (now day two), let’s do this!

Day 1 is done and it feels good to be moving towards my goal! I am trying to remind myself that nothing can change if I don’t make steps everyday to change. Today I focused on what I need to do to make this time different from other attempts.
I need to make sure I find the sweet spot of when to eat my bites. If I wait too long it feels like my b…[Read more]

Sounds like you’ve got this! I am on day one as well. I agree that it is so motivating to think of how much can be accomplished so quickly.

And yes, Dr. Lewis, I am excited. I’m excited thinking what I might weigh just 7 days from now! It’s a little daunting to think about managing dinner each night, but I told my husband and son that I won’t be cooking for 3 nights and will do snickers the first three days. I’ll stay on snickers for lunch thereafter. I think I’m looking at at leas…[Read more]

Great point! I think it’s easy to want to ignore the real consequence of extra fat.

Great insights. Yes, this diet will get the weight off quickly, but you need to appreciate fat for the danger is causes and get started on your weight loss this very moment. Fat is not in the least way benign. I causes a huge array of disease. So please develop a sense of urgency and desire to lose the weight quickly. It really is a matt…[Read more]

Great! I’m so happy you are here, Catherine! OK … let’s do this! You know how to start. Dare I say it? … Get EXCITED about how hungry you are going to become, and then challenge your body to make the hunger even stronger. When you face the hunger head-on, you really do tame it. The hunger will whimper away …

Indeed. Commit to the finish line and then get into a smooth 5-bite rhythm to get there. Life throws us curveballs, but our minds and our wills are even stronger!!!

Hi all! I lost about 25 lbs with 5B in 2015 and kept it off for awhile. But as it crept back on, I had trouble re-starting it, and for years since have tried other weight loss protocols. I am back and I am committing. Starting weight is 164.2. I will do mainly snickers except on days when I cook dinner, in which case I will eat what I cook. I…[Read more]

I understand. People feel “shame” for all sorts of things. It’s so horrible how we do that to ourselves. How does sitting in “shame” help us? It’s such a wasted emotion. Believe me — I’ve felt it over and over. We have to release that feeling – that’s our work.

Hang in Samantha! Weight loss is not linear. Some days we gain and then other days we can see a drop of a few pounds.

I agree. It’s so hard to stop our “monkey mind” from thinking about past eating struggles. We need to forgive and forget the past. It’s irrelevant. Our success is all ahead of us – one day at a time. One moment at a time. One choice at a time.

BK, don’t feel like the Lone Ranger on this one. I continually ponder why we find it so difficult to break away from the food habit. Please don’t let yourself get to the point where you have a ton of weight to lose. If I thought about the long road ahead of me, I could get discouraged. But at least this diet is fast, which I can’t say for any o…[Read more]

I come back to this forum every time with a strong commitment and every time I quickly revert back to the comforts of over eating. I have gained weight since the last time I was here and feel incredibly uncomfortable in my own skin. It is amazing how this cycle of quick comfort from food leads to such a quick sense of regret and depression. If I…[Read more]

Good to hear, gspeech. I appreciate your encouragement. I also find myself wanting to forage for food simply out of boredom. I’ll check out the book you mentioned.
I was just thinking about the mental aspects of this — particularly the shame of being overweight, and the willpower staying on the diet long-term. For as much as I detest being…[Read more]

I completely agree w everything u said. Just know that everyone is addicted to food. There is a book called the pleasure trap that talks about how salt, oil and fat are addictive – Basically everything that makes food tasty.. It does help to train ourselves to eat smaller portions which takes practice. I am making it through each day but it’s o…[Read more]
