  • Even though I am already skinny and can eat a lot, I still love the feeling of undereating.  There is something unique and magical about it.  I love being able to do what I know others cannot.  Obviously, if I fall below the threshold where I don’t want my body to go, I eat more, but I love BEING ABLE to eat less.  Don’t get me wrong: I LOVE foo…[Read more]

  • 2 pounds in 2 days.  Great!  Just imagine, Lynda, where you would be if you did THE EXACT SAME THING for … what? … just 2 months!  Put in the perspective of the rest of living days on this planet, two months is absolutely nothing!!  Before the end of November you would be in the body of a supermodel.  Extraordinary health.  And would you reall…[Read more]

  • I really like the idea of journaling, Shelly.  Try to write down EVERYTHING you eat, and journal how it tasted.  If a bite didn’t taste as good as you though it would, jot that down too.  And then keep the weight diary, where you weigh yourself 5x a day.  Tracking all of this data will help to keep you on track.

  • Pia–that’s kind of the idea of eating the same food over and over for a week or so.  I typically recommend Snickers, but it could be anything.  If you really like grilled cheese sandwiches, for example, try having 5 bites of one for every meal for a week.  It won’t be long before you realize all the bites taste the same–they always have and th…[Read more]

  • Right, Sharon.  The diet is the epitome of simple and freeing.  When you just do it, everything falls into place and makes sense.  So, to everyone out there:  Just make the commitment and tough it out until your hungerstat resets.

  • Just a fun fact:  I won a pie eating contest in college (I represented all of Revelle at UCSD!) eating a lemon meringue pie.  As much as I love them, they were never quite the same since.   :-)

  • The weekends are only challenging in that you don’t have work to distract you and take your mind off of food.  At home, food is always just 20 feet away, and without distractions we find ourselves always migrating toward the kitchen.  BUT, you don’t have the responsibilities that you may during the work week, so I view it as an opportunity to r…[Read more]

  • Not that you don’t want to go through another holiday season over-stretching your clothes, but rather that you want to go through these holidays SKINNY.  Right?   You are doing this because you want to be thin, not because you don’t like the fat, right?

  • Right!  We all can do anything for 30 days!  Anything!  I am reminded of the boys soccer team who was trapped in a cave in Thailand for 2 weeks without food, or better yet: the Chilean miners who were trapped underground for 69 days without food.  And I’m not even asking everyone to fast for 30 days–just adhere perfectly to the 5 bites.  It…[Read more]

  • Right, Pia.  Our secret society is composed of people who are (or will be soon) super skinny and super healthy.  We are it.  Look around.  No body else seems to know what we do.  Isn’t it great to be part of this community?   :-)

  • Right.  I don’t recommend eating any particular kind of food over another.  Protein and fat food do not fill you up more than other food–it’s just a volume thing.  Your body is seeking a certain volume.  I want to reset that to 5 bites-worth, then keep it there until you are done.  The actual make-up of that food is irrelevant.  So eat whate…[Read more]

  • Food is always tempting, but it’s enjoyment is SO SHORT LIVED.  Don’t give in!  So, practice distraction.  Stay away from food as much as you can.  Throw everything away.  Right now ALL of your attention should be on getting to the finish line, and only then can you  re-engage in life’s normal routines.

  • Fantastic!  It sounds like you are out of the gates with a bang!  Focus all the time, Katie.  Focus on the hunger coming, and then recognize it when it goes.  When it’s there, focus on every aspect of the hunger that you can think of, from it’s size to it’s movement to it’s color.  Corner the hunger in from all sides with your mind.  All of the s…[Read more]

  • YES!!  That’s EXACTLY right!  Eat only the best of the best, and throw the rest away.  And once you’ve had one bite of the best, you’ve had the whole portion–no point in having another bite.  You’ve got this!   :yahoo:

  • YES!  That’s it.  If you ever go astray, just start fresh as soon as you can, and you’re back!  The diet never leaves your side; it will always be there for you.   :-)

  • Great!  Then let’s work with it to maximize your weight-loss potential.  Again, it is so important for your health that you get the job done that I want you to put other things on the back burner and make weight loss priority #1.  Then commit to five bites and get it done.  You absolutely will NOT be eating like this for the rest of your lif…[Read more]

  • OK.  The whole journey is a learning process.  You will figure out what works for you and what doesn’t work for you.  So bad weeks are important too–to point out what you shouldn’t be doing.

While the long-term benefits of being thin are spectacular, you don’t have to wait until you cross the finish line to already reap benefits.  EVERY TIME you…[Read more]

  • Allan — I completely agree with Chloe and NeedingThis.  They have given you really good advice.  But the bottom line is that this program is all about you.  Do YOU truly want to be thin?  Then just do it.  Bring your wife on board if SHE wants, but don’t let her words or her actions distract you.  Let the food spoil!  It’s just food!  What…[Read more]

  • Exactly right, Lynda.  And with five bites–certainly with a multivitamin–theres is NOTHING to worry about!  But the overwhelming majority of people’s attention is on the wrong ball.  Focus needs to be on the fat cell and the extraordinary damage it causes.

  • Very good.  Dr. Meerman, with whom Dr. Brown was collaberating, emphasized that 5% of carbon is lost through urine; the other 95% through breathing.  This was discussed in one of Meerman’s Ted Talks.  Specifically, according to Dr. Meerman, the average weight of carbon in the CO2 blown out in a day is 740 gm; the weight of carbon lost through ur…[Read more]
