Fine. But you won’t remember dining-in at this particular restaurant in a month (or so), and certainly the memory of the food itself will be long gone. So was it worth it? Probably not. The extra bites will have turned your hungerstat up such that when you try and eat just 5 bites your appetite will crave more. The extra bites will have adde…[Read more]

I’m pleased, but I’m also a realist. You SHOULD be hungry, a lot of the time, the first couple of days on this diet. It’s all good, and it’s just hunger. However, the excitement of moving forward and of becoming truly skinny and healthy may override the hunger at first. Great. Go with it!!

Thanks for reminding us all, Poppycat! But the book is there for a reason. PLEASE re-read it to fully get your head back in the game.

The key, Rebekah, is to create more good days than bad days. But also remember this: All of those good days add up, and you wouldn’t be where you are today if you had eaten anything extra on those good days. So every bit of that hard work has paid off. Every time you eat less it counts: you will be lighter tomorrow as a result, and it will for…[Read more]

So you’ve laid down the line. Great. That’s the first step. Now every minute that you go without eating–from here on in–you are getting closer and closer to your dream body. Don’t let off the gas pedal. Of course you are going to get hungry! But so what? It’s just a temporary distraction. Don’t give in. Have your coffee and hot water re…[Read more]

I like that analogy. Whenever you feel hungry, your fat is dying. GREAT!!! Let it die!!

Great to have you back. This is the place to come when you are finally sick and tired of that extra weight and are truly committed to losing it. You WILL get it all off, but there will be bumps along the road. Just remember why you came back, and use that incentive to push through the tough times. Let’s do this!!

Great. Friday is now. Pretend that you just learned about this “crazy” new diet, the 5BD, and are excited to give it everything you’ve got. You want to see if it’ll really work as advertised. But you don’t know, so the only way to find out is to be PERFECT. You are going to be your own scientist, testing the hypothesis that eating exac…[Read more]

Great idea, BK. I love the idea that you are getting fully dressed up early on in the day, ready to take on the world. By preventing laziness from overcoming you, you are staying sharp and focused. You are not going to settle for mediocrity, and you are not going to give in to other people whims. It sets a tone of “I’m in charge here,” and…[Read more]

Hi SK!
Indeed … studies have shown (and of course, it varies from person to person) that in general when people are hotter they eat less. For whatever reason (think about super hot days during the summer) when it’s stifling outside you simply aren’t as hungry. Right? Also, as your body gets warmer, you metabolism, by definition, in…[Read more]

Great job! The more you do this diet the more you realize you are getting everything you could possibly crave out of a tiny amount of food and the more you realize that large amounts of food are NEVER worth it. Soon life becomes fun and exciting like never before as the importance of food becomes secondary to being fit and healthy.

I agree. I think it is best to start off with bars until the hungerstat sets, then look forward to each meal as an opportunity to confirm your newfound control over eating.

OK. What’s done is done. But start right now–this very second. As soon as you take those first few steps forward all of the guilt and regret from your missteps above will fade away and you have a renewed sense of optimism and hope. Remember: Jesus did a much stricter version of this diet for 40 days and 40 nights. As a follower of his foot…[Read more]

Tomorrow, practice by taking 1 bite of an apple and throwing the rest away. Then take one slice of an orange and throw the rest away. Have one bite of a pear, dump the rest. Have one grape. Have one bite of banana and throw the rest. You will feel like you had an entire fruit salad for lunch, yet got away with sticking to the diet perf…[Read more]

Hi BK! I love it. Indeed!–take it day by day and build momentum. I like that concept. Every day you get a little better at the process, and eventually you will reach the event horizon after which there is no turning back. The momentum you’ve accrues will take you all the way to the finish line!
This journey is a project, and the proj…[Read more]

Just keep in mind that you are for sure going to feel weak and tired the first few days. You just have to deal with it. Do not eat to prevent this symptoms–you are just spinning your wheels if you do. So start today!!!

Love that attitude, LM! It’s just a matter of time. If you can do this for one perfect day, you can do it for 10 perfect weeks. But just focus on the day at hand. Make THIS day a perfect day. 2 bars, not a bite more. Tomorrow, you won’t wish you had eaten a crumb more, I promise!

It feels really good to have accomplished that much success already and to be back in the weight-loss groove, doesn’t it? Don’t you feel like it should be pretty easy to keep things going as they are until you reach your goal? But watch out for this thing called LIFE! Parties, friends, events … they’ve all…[Read more]
