  • Thank you, Smaro, Chrissa, and Dr. Lewis! I do feel changed, even with a modest loss on the scale. I’m doing a fair bit of resistance training, and I like feeling muscle where there was a certain “softness.” I’ll keep pecking away at it. I’ve given myself all year. Let’s keep up the great work of transformation!

  • Great work, Smaro! Downward is progress, whatever the number. My number: 5.2 pounds down, about what it was the last time I participated in a bar challenge. Those of you with young families to care for have far greater challenges than I do. I’m semi-retired, still work from home a bit as a technical editor, and can clear the decks of attractive…[Read more]

  • Quest bars are a bit pricey, around $25 for 12, but I like the fact that they contain more protein and fiber, and fewer grams of carbohydrate. I just saw Kind bars at the grocery on sale, $10 for 10, but I think I have enough bars on hand. I don’t do well with candy bars; I think they make me hungrier. There are many types of “food” bars available…[Read more]

    SocialCher, we’ve got this!!!!

Woo-hoo! And so we do! Today is my fifth day, and hunger is nearly nonexistent. I would not have dreamed that could happen, even though I’ve heard from Dr. Lewis, and others, that it does! It’s as if the hungerstat says, “What, no copious amounts of food forthcoming? Well, then, I’ll see myself…[Read more]

  • Two bars today, a Quest bar and a Trail Mix bar. Hunger very much under control, now. The small amount of food is satisfying, and I can go about my business in comfort. I won’t be weighing myself again until Tuesday, as I don’t want to be discouraged by any negative results. Been down that road too many times! Best wishes to all!

  • The immediate results are so motivating. When I followed a national plan, the weight loss was so slow that I’d quickly drop out. If one lost more than 3-4 pounds in a week, one would receive a mild scolding. The last time I attended a meeting, I heard that fruit was deemed a “free” food, as much as you can hold! No, thank you. Keep at it, Chrissa,…[Read more]

  • These first few days of 5-biting are hard. It’s a big reduction in the volume of food most of us have been eating. If you have Dr. Lewis’s book, I’d suggest re-reading the parts about the “hungerstat.” It takes a bit of time to reset it, and being consistent with the volume of food we eat will help us achieve that. I’m feeling less hungry today,…[Read more]

  • Down 1.6 today; I’ll take it! Still fighting hunger. I hope after day 3, that’ll ease. Taking second bar of the day with a hot drink, so it feels more like a meal. We’re doing great! Carry on!

  • 11:27 am and just finished my bar. Tummy is making quite a racket! More, more, it cries! Felt good enough this morning (after a near-perfect 5B day yesterday) to do a light workout. Not looking forward to eating my second bar at around 4:00; that’s as it should be. Down 0.8 this morning. :)

  • I do enjoy a warmed-up Snickers bar! Yes, smaro, you might like to read further articles by Dr. Jason Fung at his site, “Intensive Dietary Management.” A nephrologist, he made the connection between diabetes, diet, and the benefits of fasting. His fasting protocols have helped many to reverse that debilitating condition. Once I get into the…[Read more]

Can doing 5 bite trigger binging?

Kat, you might find this article helpful. I’ve been following this physician and researcher for awhile. To me, it’s applicable to five-biting as the plan, if carried out to the letter, incorporates a significant period of fasting. His position is that simply eating less, without adding a period…[Read more]

  • I’ll hop on with you, smaropap! I actually started today, but I’ll continue through the 26th. I’ve tried beginning five-bite challenges with whole food, but I always go on to eat too much. I’m going to eat robotically, as Dr. Lewis recommends, with the structure and tedium of bars (which I do dislike). What can I do in a week? I’ve haven’t been…[Read more]

  • I’ll be following your progress, Gayle! What a great feeling to know that you can manage a small gain and return to your former weight, using these 5B tools. I like the feeling of the long fast built into the plan, and I think that’s when I begin to use the many calories I carry around! Best wishes, and I’ll “see” you online!

  • Michelle, I, too, had exercise-induced asthma, but didn’t realize it. I thought everybody coughed for an hour after a few miles of running! After a severe respiratory infection in my early thirties, I developed a chronic condition. I’ve been on asthma meds 2x/day for 30+ years, but am now using an inhaler only 1x/day and am less symptomatic.

    I am…[Read more]

My weight, has been a negative obsession for most of my adult life. The sense of freedom and empowerment I have is something I wish I could share with everyone.

My own obsession dates back to childhood. I went on my first “diet,” the Stillman high protein plan, at age 14 when I weighed a whopping 112 pounds. The diet allowed…[Read more]

  • Thank you 5B girl! And, Michelle, we’ve a bit in common. I’ve had chronic, moderate asthma for over 30 years, but it has much improved in the past couple of years. I, too, find that weight loss only occurs with faithful five-biting using low-carb foods or bars, and I feel great eating that way.

I’ve decided that tomorrow, Tuesday, I’ll begin a…[Read more]

  • I’m feeling it, too! Saw a quote today, “Dream big…start small.” A small amount of food, that is. My trainer would have me eating six times per day, which would surely cause me to gain six pounds per week. Hunger diminishes when we eat “small,” as we do when 5-biting. The 5B diet also incorporates a nice, long fast, helpful to me in weight loss.…[Read more]

  • My name is Sherry! Thank you for your kind words of encouragement, Gayle. I’m going to spend the next few days acclimating myself to five bites using “real” food, and then I’d like to try a bar challenge. I have done this…the hunger just fades away. It was the weird head/chest feelings that did me in. Looking forward to seeing my 24″ waist…[Read more]

  • Hello, all! I have newly rejoined, after several attempts at 5Bing. In fact, Gayle, I was lurking about last fall when you completed your fantastic journey into the teens! I’ve been put off the plan in the past by disturbing sensations of lightheadedness and extreme fatigue, which, while Dr. Lewis says are to be expected, are a bit unnerving. For…[Read more]
