  • No, Dr. Lewis, I didn’t honor my commitment. I am down three pounds, but I ate more bites in an attempt to quell the hollow headache and get some sleep. I’ve bought six days worth of bars, and will try the plan that way. I’ve been using “real food,” but I obviously find that food too interesting! Thanks, as always, for your unwavering support of…[Read more]

  • I believe this to be true. I carry my weight around my middle. Even though I may have fasted 18 hours prior to a blood glucose test, I’ll still have slightly elevated levels. Yet another good reason to evict the extra pounds.

  • I really like this quote from Dr. Lewis about establishing new routines: To also know you can have anything you want to eat in just five bites and feel so in control is so incredible. Read the book every day and focus on your day one day at a time. Drink lots of [decaf tea] and water and keep reminding yourself that you are creating a new pattern…[Read more]

  • Ugh. Yes. Yes, it’s time to get rid of excess fat. I’m gonna be thinking about Dr. Lewis’s reply all day.

  • For me, sustaining “motivation” or practicing “willpower” costs energy and results in unnecessary daily struggle. My mind and body  wish to take the path of least resistance! If we do the tough work of adapting to the five bite plan, that difficult first three to five days, the way of eating becomes habit, which takes far less energy. I recall…[Read more]

  • I’ve gained 40 pounds since my divorce 10 years ago. That’s a mere 4.5 pounds a year! But, as Dr. Lewis pointed out in the 12/3 chat, it adds up. It seems easier to gain at this time of life, and sooo much harder to lose. 2019 MUST be the year I return to renewed good health and well being with the Five Bite eating plan.

  • Just entered my current weight in the Weight Tracker (!). Higher than two years ago when I last visited the Slimming Station. I wish I could reset the tracker to Week 1, but it remains on Week 5. I’ll work with it.

That’s a great plan – I started taking measurements and photos to see the difference physically. Especially for those days when the scale didn’t budge.

Great idea, Beth. The scale, as Gayle has pointed out, is only one highly imperfect measure of progress. I’ve given the scale complete control of my actions…how mad is that?! I’ll…[Read more]

I totally knew I was getting smaller and everyone commented on that, but just seeing almost the same number day after day made me furious.

This is why I’m noting my progress through measurements taken by my trainer. As long as I’m losing inches, the pounds will follow. So many times I’ve sabotaged my positive effort after…[Read more]

  • Sounds like a great plan!

  • My adherence to the five-bite protocol has been choppy, but in the first two weeks, I lost 5 pounds, and a total of 11 inches from “waist,” chest, arm, and mid-thigh. My trainer was surprised, as she states that inches are harder for most people to lose. Here’s to a loss of them for you, too!

  • Weight gain and loss are complicated functions, and gains may have little to do with the amount of food one’s eaten. I feel my extra weight in my feet, and it’s hard to get up off the floor, or up from a very low beach chair. I’m so ready for change.

  • Brenda, I have a hate-hate relationship with the scale, as it cruelly withholds positive news about my sincere efforts. Working with a trainer these past couple of months, using body measurements and the scale, I’ve realized that I lose inches like a champ, but the pounds, as reported by the infernal scale, lag. I’ve never used measurements to…[Read more]

  • I agree with Chrissa, Brenda. I dislike bars, especially candy bars, but a stint eating them helps to “set the hungerstat,” and allows you to see just how little food you can eat and be comfortable. I’ve started and stopped five biting many times with regular food, as I tend to just keep eating. The bar gives you discrete beginning and end…[Read more]

When I’m in my lean maintenance zone, everything else seems to flow. Flow and ease are key to my balanced and peaceful life.

This is so true, Gayle, and I’ve experienced that sense of peace. I, too, will be avoiding the scale, except for weekly peeks (maybe). I was down a few more inches this week, which is progress I can feel.…[Read more]

  • I’ll do it! I’ll start with a week of bars (I, too, had a couple of treat days), and then switch to low-carb, whole foods. I’m going to continue workouts, emphasizing strength training, and decreasing the more intense cardio I was doing, as Dr. L has said that this can enhance hunger. Just casual dog walks. Best wishes, Smaro, for tomorrow!

Downward progress! That’s a great result. It’s comforting to know that, IF I adhere to Dr. Lewis’s protocol, I WILL lose weight. He’s helped hundreds of people of all ages, sizes, and states of health to drop pounds. It may be five pounds, or 15 (I’m thinking of you, Mary) in a week, but the plan is so much quicker and more effective than anything…[Read more]

I’m also still noticing what Gayle had mentioned as a detachment from other food. When I’m cooking for the family, it still looks and smells delicious, but the thought of eating it never even crosses my mind because it’s simply not my food.

I noticed this detachment occurring, too, and I do think that focusing on eating only…[Read more]

  • Thank you, Beth! I’m glad you’re back and fighting the good fight. A “friend” told me that I’d never lose the excess weight, because at our age, it’s just too hard. I told her that I will never give up. It may take a little longer than it did when I was in my twenties, but I know I can do it. Best wishes to you, Beth!
