Chloe, It seems as if you eat breakfast and lunch. How do you manage through the whole evening without eating? Do you get hungry? How do you handle evening social gatherings? I like the idea of ending eating earlier in the day, and I’m sure this would help me with weight loss, but I’m afraid the evening hours would be so hard without “dinner.” Thanks!

I have discovered that eating 5 bites at lunch and dinner has really helped regulate my hunger. Having better hunger regulation then helps me stay to the 5 bites. In the past, I would often be so famished (from fasting or going long periods without food) that I’d overeat, often consuming many, many, many bites of food before I even sat down to eat…[Read more]

Gayle, yes, I totally agree with what you said about going over the 5 bites, which just sets me up for wanting more and feeling conflicted. Waking up feeling thinner is way more satisfying!

I am slowly feeling more and more satisfied with five bites. Of course, obviously I could keep eating, but that desire only lasts about 10 minutes and then I…[Read more]

Yes, Dr Lewis, the first few bites of the potatoes were amazing, for sure. The last few bites were repetitive and the deliciousness had a diminishing return.

Great suggestion, spiderchlome! I had a cup of tea after my lunch today and it was the perfect warming comforting “ending” to my meal! And thanks for the weight loss encouragement, too

This is my third week on the 5BD and have lost 13 pounds. I’m delighted with my progress and feel much, much better. I was really hungry and the roast potatoes were warm and extremely scrumptious and I overate them by about 6 extra bites.

Hi Beclean,

Thanks for the tip about the Diet Coke related to plateauing. I have a very sluggish metabolism and I usually plateau on diets eventually. I actually gave up diet soda and all artificial sweeteners for about 10 years, but I got pulled back in to Coke Zero during the covid months.

Thanks for your response, Dr Lewis. I knew it was somewhere in the book, but I couldn’t readily find it. Unfortunately, I don’t drink coffee, but tea and water are top of my list, with a Coke Zero as a “treat.”

I am on Day 3 of my first 5-Bite Diet experience. It’s going fairly well except I am ravenous two hours after lunch and two hours after dinner. I am muscling through the discomfort by drinking Diet Coke, tea, and water. This made me question why liquids wouldn’t stretch our stomach stretch receptors just as solid food does. I read the book but I…[Read more]
